OGI Theses & Dissertations Policy and Resources
Thesis/Dissertation Submission Policy
This policy was established in March 2006 by the OGI Dean and Department Heads.
- All students submitting a thesis or dissertation will submit an electronic file in PDF format. If essential or valuable for the thesis presentation, other files (movies, audio, datasets) may accompany the PDF file.
- In addition, students will submit one single-sided paper copy (100% cotton) of the thesis to the OGI Library as the archival paper storage. The Library will bind this copy and retain as a non-circulating archival copy.
- The OGI Style Guide will be followed for both the PDF and the print version of the thesis.
- The student may submit other paper copies ( for departmental or personal use) and the Library will arrange for binding of these copies. The personal copies can be printed as the student desires and on whatever paper is desired; the student bears all the costs associated with the personal copies.
- The student may submit a copy to Proquest/UMI. The submission fee is paid by the student and as of February 2008 is $55. UMI will digitize, index, and make the students' theses available (for a fee to the user). An "open access" model is also offered; the student pays an additional $95 for this option.
Options for Electronic Publishing
- The thesis is published as "open access" and is made available for worldwide access immediately. This is the recommended option.
- The thesis is published on "delayed" or "secured" release. Reasons for this may include waiting for publication of sections of the thesis, waiting for patent applications to process, or for other valid reasons which would be determined by the School with guidance from the thesis advisor and student. The maximum period for this delay is one year. At the end of this time, the thesis will be released for worldwide access.
