Our research addresses physical, chemical, and biological processes that occur within and at the interface of biomolecular systems, including the natural environment and living organisms.
Specifically, our research promotes: (i) fundamental understanding of processes at molecular, cellular, and particle levels; (ii) integrative, process-based understanding of ecosystems and individual organisms; and (iii) effective use of science in society's approaches to ecosystems health, human health, and economic development. Our research has national and international impact, while serving the needs of the Pacific Northwest.
In addition to the research areas and groups where EBS has long had notable strengths, we are developing new research foci in the three strategic areas identified as "New Research Initiatives on this page. These areas represent strategic opportunities for the Department and its faculty as well as new opportunities for prospective graduate students or postdocs. More detail on these initiative will be added to this web site soon. Until then, interested parties are encouraged to contact us for more information.
