Faculty opportunities

1) Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor in Aquatic or Environmental Bioinorganic Chemistry

11/14/07 Update: Please inquire before applying.

OHSU´s Department of Environmental and Biomolecular Systems (http://www.ebs.ogi.edu) invites applications for a faculty position at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level. We seek candidates with expertise in aquatic chemistry, chemical oceanography, biogeochemistry, environmental bioinorganic chemistry, and related fields, whose research addresses problems related to environmental and human health. We are particularly interested in candidates who can facilitate strong research and teaching collaborations among microbiologists, molecular biologists, biochemists, and environmental scientists and engineers. The candidate will join a unique, diverse, and highly interdisciplinary department that is part of a major health science university, and may be affiliated with the recently funded NSF Science and Technology Center for Coastal Margin Observation and Prediction (http://www.stccmop.org).

The position is available immediately. Review of applications will start July 2007 but we will accept applications until the position is filled. Applications (cover letter, curriculum vitae, and contact information for suggested references) or questions can be sent to: Brad Tebo, Chair, Environmental Chemist Search Committee, Department of Environmental and Biomolecular Systems, OGI School of Science & Engineering, Oregon Health & Science University, 20000 NW Walker Road, Beaverton OR 97006-8921, ec_search@ebs.ogi.edu.

OHSU is an Equal Opportunity Employer and a tobacco free institution.

Graduate Student Opportunities

Ph.D. and M.S. Programs

Information for prospective students can be found here.

Undergraduate and High School Research Opportunities

Undergraduate

Each summer, the Department of Environmental and Biomolecular Systems (EBS) hosts 3-6 undergraduates for research internships.

The EBS Undergraduate Internship Program begins in mid June and runs for 10 weeks. (Interns may negotiate later start dates and/or earlier end dates with their faculty supervisor.) A stipend will be awarded to the most qualified candidates, and other qualified candidates may be offered the opportunity for volunteer internships.

Applications are due March 1st, the department announces its decisions in mid March, and prospective interns are expected to acceptor or decline our offers by mid April.

To apply, please send the following information by email to christin@ohsu.edu, or mail to: Nancy Christie, Mail Code OGI 100, Department of Environmental & Biomolecular Systems, OGI School of Science & Engineering, Oregon Health & Science University, 20000 N.W. Walker Road, Beaverton, OR 97006-8921.

  1. Cover letter including a statement (under 500 words) describing your scientific interests and motivation for pursuing summer research. Indicate which department faculty member you would most like to work with and why. (The research areas of EBS faculty can be found at http://ogi.edu/ebs/people/.)
  2. Resume including full contact information (name, address, phone numbers, email addresses); your current undergraduate affiliation, major, and class; and prior work experience with 1-3 sentence summaries of any research exprience you have.
  3. Official transcripts for all undergraduate colleges or universities that you have attended.
  4. One letter of recommendation. (Letters sent directly from the author to the address given above are preferred.)

Additional internship opportunities for undergraduates are available through the Center of Coastal Margin Observation and Research (CMOP). For more details, see http://www.stccmop.org/undergraduate/. There is no need to apply to both programs because the admissions processes are closely coordinated.

Note to international students: Undergraduate internships within the Department of Environmental and Biomolecular Systems are open to international students. However, the stipend available would not include enough funds for housing, travel, insurance, and visa application so those costs would be the responsibility of the student. Undergraduate internships within the Center for Coastal Margin Observation and Prediction are available only to U.S. citizens and U.S. permanent residents.

High-School

In general, we only accept high school student interns through Saturday Academy's Apprenticeships in Science and Engineering (ASE) program. Candidates should apply through the ASE Program.

There are additional opportunities for high school students and teachers through the Center for Coastal Margin Observation and Prediction (CMOP). For more details, see http://www.stccmop.org/education.
