CSEE
Admissions Prerequisites

Click here for general information on how to apply to OGI School of Science and Engineering at OHSU.

Students intending to complete a Masters or Ph.D. in Computer Science should have either a bachelor's degree in Computer Science or have a strong computer science background. The background should include, at a minimum, undergraduate courses in discrete mathematics, data structures, and statistics (typically sophomore level courses). Students should also be proficient in a modern programming language. If you are unsure of your background in discrete mathematics and data structures, use the enclosed quiz to test your knowledge level.

Students intending to complete a Masters or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering should hold a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or computer science. Students with bachelor's degrees in other branches of engineering, the sciences, or in mathematics will also be considered. Students interested in the Computer Engineering and Design track should be familiar with electronic circuits. Students interested in the other three tracks (SLIST, MLAS, CompBio) should be familiar with multivariate calculus, differential equations, linear algebra, complex variables, and probability.

CSEE MS Advanced Placement
Students can apply to the MS program through the Advanced Placement option. Students must have completed at least four courses from OHSU. Two of the courses must be from the core of the student's chosen track. Two other courses must be applicable to the student's track, and be from CS, EE, or Math and taken at OHSU.

Furthermore, students need a GPA of 3.0 in their coursework at OHSU and a B or better in each of the four classes.

Students applying with the advanced placement option only need two letters of recommendation (can be from the instructors of courses taken at OHSU), and do not need to provide GRE and TOEFL scores. All other OGI admissions requirements must be fulfilled.

CSEE Admissions Deadlines
Applications for admission to the master's program are accepted and evaluated year-round, for admittance in any quarter. Students should apply at least 6 weeks prior to the start of the term in which they want to enroll. International students should apply at least 10 weeks prior to the start of the term in which they want to enroll.

For the Ph.D. program, most students are admitted for the Fall term. It is recommended that students apply by March 15th. However, applications are reviewed on a year-round basis for admission for any term.
